Welcome to Old Sheep Meadow Nursery

The Roses

We have been growing Roses in Maine for over FORTY-ONE YEARS. In some past years, our winter losses have been severe but we learned from this experience. We now know which plants are extra hardy, those that survived. These survivors are the roses we offer for sale.

The Roses here at Old Sheep Meadows Nursery have been selected for their winter hardiness, vigor, fragrance, and suitable for a northern Maine garden.

Do you remember the fragrance of the roses your grandmother grew? Our display garden has over 250 rose bushes, with three large rose arbors. The roses are have been encouraged to develop in their natural form, demonstrating their performance.

We have an old garden rose bed, arbors with climbing roses that do not dieback each year, rugosa roses in a garden setting, rambling roses climbing over stone walls and a selection of shrub roses including the lovely David Austin New English roses.

We would be happy to recommend these extra tough roses, shrubs and perennials to you. The roses will be at peak bloom in late June and early July.

Our ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE for rose lovers will be June 14th through July 6th.

We welcome vistitors to walk our gardens and see the roses  we have for sale in 2, 3, 4, and 5 gallon containers, these roses are for sale, but we do not ship roses. Many Maine visitors come to our gardens and bring home our lovely Roses to plant in their gardens.
